NW Film Archive

CONTRIBUTE TO THE HISTORY OF THE NORTH WEST

The Nerve Centre, Derry City Council, Donegal County Council and Letterkenny Arts Centre recently initiated work on The North West Film Archive. This unique project will use digital technology to display the social, cultural and political histories of Derry and Donegal using photographs, news reels, television and radio documentaries, amateur ‘home movie’ footage, short films and feature length dramas.

The NWFA has been funded by the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, administered by the Cross-Border Consortium and managed by Co-Operation Ireland. Taking the form of a digitized history of the 20th Century of the two counties, the archive will be accessible to a broad range of user groups.

This interactive learning resource will also form the basis for an educational programme of workshops and hands-on creative activities for secondary schools in Derry and Donegal focusing upon the new curriculum of citizenship. At present four schools from each county are participating on the programme.

Terry Coyle, Project Researcher for The North West Film Archive is currently in the process of sourcing material for the archive.

Should you have any relevant material for use in the archive (particularly film footage, audio recordings and photographs) please contact terry@nerve-centre.org.uk or kennvarts@indigo.ie

All material used will be acknowledged and returned. In the mean time log onto http://www.nwfilmarchive.net and watch our local history unfold.
