THE MINERVA PROJECT

Over the past eighteen months the Nerve Centre has been involved in an E.U. 'Minerva' project aimed at using creative technologies to look at current issues in European society. 'Living with Conflict' is a web-based resource which highlights the conflicts in Northern Ireland and the Basque Country and looks at the similarities that exist between them, but also the way in which they can be compared to racist conflict in Germany, France and Finland.

This project is designed to be used throughout Europe to highlight the common features of conflict in general and look at how they impacts on young people in those societies. A key feature of Living With Conflict sees theoretical information about why conflicts develop presented with practical examples from real situations in Europe.

Using the web as a platform for this allows users to dip in and out of the site and practise various exercises looking at information ranging from murals to football to music. This can be done as part of a teaching programme or independently and will contribute to a range of educational curricula across Europe.

Living With Conflict will be launching at the end of the year so keep an eye on

www.living-with-conflict.org and find out how Northern Ireland and Finland might be able to learn from each other!
